I have been a fan of Vampire stories and lore for as long as I can remember. I love everything from Barnabas Collins from the 1960’s tv show, Dark Shadows, to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, to reading any book with vampires that I can get my hands on (yes, even those really cheesy *heaving bosom* ones). So you can imagine how excited I got when it was announced last month that Universal has acquired Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles, and they plan to start making them into films produced by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (both of Star Trek, Fringe and Sleepy Hollow fame).
In my excitement, I started thinking of who I would want to play Lestat in the upcoming film. Lestat is described in the books as being very good looking, in his 30s with curly blonde hair, grey eyes that soak up green and blue colors, a devilish smile and can look both angry and caring in a very sensual way. He is described to be six feet tall, even though he was previously played by Tom Cruise, who is known to be a rather short actor. Based on the descriptions, and what I pictured in my mind while reading the books, below is a list of my top picks. Enjoy!
5. Alexander Skarsgård – Yes, he just finished playing a vampire on True Blood, but I always thought Eric resembled a bit how I pictured Lestat, especially in season one with the longer hair. We know he looks great in fangs, and we know he is capable of looking extremely mean, or very generous (as Lestat tends to do) while still looking great!
4. Dan Stevens – Yes, Mr. Crawley from Downton Abbey. He’s got the piercing blue eyes and a sort of wicked smile, he looks great in period costumes and he does a great job in everything we’ve seen him in. Though I’ve never seen him with long hair, I image he would look great.
3. Ryan Gosling – Not sure if this sort of movie would be in Ryan’s interest to do, but if he would consider it, I think he’d make an amazing Lestat. With the blonde hair and blue eyes, I don’t think I need to do much convincing for you guys to see how awesome he would be!
2. Charlie Hunnam – Also known as Jax Teller from tv’s Son’s of Anarchy. In any given episode we can see him go from pure rage, to pure love, and we know he can be sensual without even trying. He looks great with long hair, and he’s an amazing actor who’s talents range from comedy (Undeclared), to Science Fiction (Pacific Rim), and he was the original choice to play the main character in the Twilight fan-fic turned “book”/movie, Fifty Shades of Gray, so they must have thought he had a great wicked side to him. Lets hope he manages to stay on if he’s the pick for the new Lestat.
1. Chris Hemsworth – Anne Rice even said it herself, Chris Hemsworth is the perfect choice for Lestat. He’s got the hair, the looks, the smile that captures you. He can be brooding and sexy, he kicks ass and we all know he looks great with long blonde hair, he’s got it all.
